Background
Just about every slot developer in existence has a flagship Irish slot on the books, and Lucky Leprechaun is Microgaming’s version, lumping just about every Irish stereotype in existence into one place. A lush green meadow, a blue sky and an enormous day-glo rainbow graces the background to the reels, while the high value symbols include pints of stout, smoking pipes, fiddles, pots of gold and the leprechaun himself. The low value symbols are the standard 9 – A, but with pretty Celtic detailing that makes it look much more in keeping with the theme. As you might expect a lilting Irish tune tinkles in the background, while some fun animations bring the whole package together.
Like many Irish themed slots the Lucky Leprechaun slot game is fairly traditional in its layout, with five reels and three rows while there are 20 pay lines to play on. The maximum bet is on the low side at £/€/$20 per spin, but the maximum win of 1000x your stake means there is a top prize of £/€/$20,000 on offer, which isn’t chump change no matter how you slice it. That top bet is only available if you beat the bonus game though, which is part of the reason that this slot’s RTP is bang on average at 97%.
Lucky Leprechaun Bonuses
There are two bonus features in this game, the rainbow trail and the free spins, which both give you a good chance of winning big. The rainbow trail is activated by landing up to five pot of gold bonus symbols, with the number of symbols you landed to activate the game determining how many dice you get to throw to determine your progress along the road. Each square on the road that you land on grants a bonus, from cash prizes to multipliers and extra free spins, while getting to the end grants you a bonus of up to 1000x your stake. The free spins game is a little more pedestrian, but it’s still fun, and you can activate it with just one free spins bonus symbol that grants you five free spins. Land extra clovers on the reels in those five spins and you can add another five spins to your total, all with a 2x multiplier thrown into the bargain.
Verdict
Lucky Leprechaun can be an unforgiving and tricky slot, however, the bonus rounds are very generous. You can easily play a few rounds without making any wins, then hit a massive prize that completely changes your fortunes on the very next spin!
